Programming, which has developed into its own language, is now the favorite language of women, as more and more women have become interested in mastering it (even more so than French or Mandarin, for instance). Is it a positive sign of the times?

It began with internet/SMS lingo; and LOL was born. New acronyms followed suit (like OMG). Then emerged terms like Java and Python (no, not the place in Indonesia or the snake). Programming has developed into its own language and more and more women have become interested in mastering it (even more so than French or Mandarin, for instance). Is it a positive sign of the times?

Perhaps, women are tech savvy?

The Nest is the latest trend in technology; its a computer-driven thermostat with some fancy features, namely; its remote access via the internet.

Designed by Tony Fadell, who ran the iPod division at Apple, amongst other things, the Nest is made to power itself. It also carefully tracks your heating/cooling habits and determines an optimal environment. It then shows a green or red leaf to urge you in the direction of using less or more energy.

Censorship is alive… and it’s about to take over the Internet. There is a new bill floating around the House of Representatives called SOPA –Stop Online Piracy Act. In theory it sounds fair – it would give the music and movie industries (among others) the right to keep their copyrighted materials from being stolen and republished online illegally.

Integrity on the Internet is a hot topic!  Elizabeth Boylan’s article “Do Multiple Identities Reflect a Lack of Integrity?” hits the nail on the head!  I read it and thought the way she approached the argument was exceptional. Although it may seem to some that the Internet is a place where no harm can come of establishing numerous Bruce Wayne/Batman alter egos and using these various versions and visages of the self as masks for different situations, these types of individuals ignore altogether the concept of integrity.

Mother’s Day is fast approaching (Sunday, May 8th)!  What is the best gadget for mom?  Well, if you’re thinking of gifting mom a gadget, now’s the time to place your order online!  Wondering what to get?  I’ve got you covered!  Here’s a list of my 5 picks for the hottest gadgets for mom this Mother’s Day.

  1. Apple iPad 2: it’s simple to use and requires no prior knowledge of computers –great for less tech savvy moms.  If mom likes to read, she can download her favorite books and use it as an eReader.  You can get the iPad engraved with a special, personalized Mother’s Day message from Apple’s website. (starting at $499) - I OWN ONE AND LOVE IT!
  2. Amazon Kindle: If you think mom would enjoy an eReader but you’re not spending $500 on a Mother’s Day gift, you can opt for a Kindle from Amazon.  It has a paper-like Pearl electronic-ink display (great even under bright sunlight), a one month battery life, and its ultra-light weight, at only 8.5 ounces. (starting at $114)
