Digital eye strain is a modern problem that results in poor eye health and fatigue. The Vision Council listed recommendations in its recent report on the issue.

We are living in a technical society where the average time spent in front of a computer or other electronic device is increasing at an alarming rate. Experts believe that it may cause serious health problems such as digital eye strain, headaches, and back and neck pain. With the release of next generation gadgets, which only increase our exposure to electronic devices, the discussion of digital eye strain is timely a one.

What’s ‘Tech for Women’ Anyway?

Statistically speaking, women are far more tech savvy than many think. I’ve often cited a Bloomberg article on female tech prowess, and for the sake of substantiating this post, in recap fashion, let me share again those incredible statistics

Since I’ve been a kid, I’ve been a Microsoft Paint fanatic.  The designer of this Color Matching Pen must have drawn inspiration from the same when coming up with this design.  Paint has a dropper tool that lets you select a color to draw/write with.  This physical pen works the same.  Simply ‘scan’ over a color you want to write in, and the pen will match it accordingly.

A new ruler replacement:  if you use a traditional ruler, it’s time to throw it out.  Designed by Giha Woo, the Constrained Ball is a new drawing aid that, once attached to a pen, will let you draw straight lines without using a ruler.

Cute Geek (cutegeek.com) feature on Renee Schmidt (@cutegeek

CuteGeek, a technology blog written from the female perspective, recently did a profile on me: Brilliant Women in Technology: Meet Renee Schmidt  so I thought it would be proper to return the favor.  CuteGeek is a unique and user friendly technology blog with a guiding philosophy that can be summed up in a statement made by co-founder Radiris Diaz; “we represent everything men are and more…” Not only does this mean that CuteGeek is operated by women who call themselves geeks (although I call them heroines), but also that its content is directed at the technologically inclined modern woman.

Mother’s Day is fast approaching (Sunday, May 8th)!  What is the best gadget for mom?  Well, if you’re thinking of gifting mom a gadget, now’s the time to place your order online!  Wondering what to get?  I’ve got you covered!  Here’s a list of my 5 picks for the hottest gadgets for mom this Mother’s Day.

  1. Apple iPad 2: it’s simple to use and requires no prior knowledge of computers –great for less tech savvy moms.  If mom likes to read, she can download her favorite books and use it as an eReader.  You can get the iPad engraved with a special, personalized Mother’s Day message from Apple’s website. (starting at $499) - I OWN ONE AND LOVE IT!
  2. Amazon Kindle: If you think mom would enjoy an eReader but you’re not spending $500 on a Mother’s Day gift, you can opt for a Kindle from Amazon.  It has a paper-like Pearl electronic-ink display (great even under bright sunlight), a one month battery life, and its ultra-light weight, at only 8.5 ounces. (starting at $114)
