world leaders on twitter 07-01-2013

Twitter has become so immensely popular that world leaders on Twitter account for 75% of them globally. It’s no wonder Twitter is on its way to IPO.

In 2011 the world came to truly understand the revolutionary impact of social media. As a result of the movement in Middle East, images were distributed through Twitter, Facebook and other mainstream social media networks, which served as a catalyst to an already disturbed situation. There was no denying the unrest; so much so that social scientists and media experts credited social media for rallying people together around a cause: peace.

The 21st century has quickly become the century of social media and social networking. People of all ages are now constantly connected, from any and everywhere. Calling friends is more fun than ever with Twiize, an app that lets you share photos, read updates, and check your friend’s recent activity while on a call.

There were times when people would write letters to friends and send them through snail mail. Then came the phone and people were able to call and have a chat. Eventually, texting made things even simpler and people began calling their friends more rarely. Ever since the Facebook era began, few people call their friends for updates. Phone calls have become outdated; the internet is a better way to connect and get information and updates on demand.

Buzzdoes rewards you for spreading the word about your favorite apps. Recommend an app, earn reward points and turn them into cash or get free apps!

We all love to share. With the internet becoming increasingly more social, most of us surf the internet based on recommendations from those in our social networks. For instance, you sign in to Facebook and your wall is abound with recommendations, both sponsored and viral. We then return the favor by sharing and ‘liking’ things ourselves. Word-of-mouth marketing has always been powerful and today, with a marketplace awash in advertising, there’s little authentic influence aside from the voice of someone you know or trust. That’s why the modern consumer is comfortable seeking and giving advice on everything from movies to restaurants to childcare to entertainment and information sources through social –it’s our primary way to source vendors. I know for myself, I just list who/what I’m looking for as a status update. Unfortunately, we don’t get any monetary benefit from all our hard work –that is, until now.

Introducing Buzzdoes, an app that rewards you when you recommend an app and spread the word about your favorite apps.

Back in June we wrote about Rounds, formerly a Facebook-only phenomenon that had raised raised a total of $5.5 million in funding from industry leading investors, including Verizon Ventures, Rhodium, DFJ’s Tim Draper, and other private investors to become a Rounds standalone app. The capital was going to turn Rounds into a a standalone app; but no ETA had been announced. The Moments app uses geo-location and push notifications to passively reconnect old photos with locations, helping you and those you care about to relive favorite memories.

We don’t remember days, months, or years. We remember moments. And for when we don’t, there’s now an app for that. Instead of posting, sharing, or checking-in; what if you were reminded? Moments is an app that reminds you of the memories that are most important to you. With the Moments App, when you pass by places that you have been to, Moments sends you a push notification. You can then relive and share your special moment with the friends and family who were with you at the time.

Technology in Israel: I spent a week in Israel meeting with leaders in tech. The result is a thoughtful view of a tiny country that few ever get to see.

If you’re wondering why I haven’t blogged in the last week or so, it’s because I was traveling (with a very tight schedule). Last week I had the pleasure and privilege of taking part in a delegation trip to Israel to meet with the country’s leaders in technology (startups, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, investors, incubators and more). The invitation was extended by the Israeli Consulate of NY and Israel’s Foreign Trade Ministry. The attendees, in addition to myself, were a handful of fellow U.S. bloggers. The trip’s objective was to immerse the delegation into technology in Israel, a tech and startup scene that’s been dubbed the ‘Startup Nation,’ which is also the title of a best-selling book on the very subject.

What is Facedeals, anyway? Facedeals is a face-recognition scanner and software that checks you in to stores and then, via Facebook, sends you a customized deal. Cool or creepy?

There is new advancement in face-recognition technology, causing ripples amongst critics and enthusiasts alike, and it will soon be in stores. Facedeals, which is a retail-focused consumer scanner, scans your face and then connects data from social networks.
