Decades of experience and observation leads me to these four Pillars of Personal Prosperity:

1) Can-do attitude
2) Diligence
3) Continuous Learning
4) Trustworthiness

They apply regardless of age, gender, coloration, etc.
They can be given to no one, only encouraged.
Leaders should exemplify them.

There's no heavy lifting in tech- it's a career taylor made for women- the first programmers/ computer operators were women- Grace Hopper http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_Hopper. Then a bunch of smelly geeky guys with poor hygiene dominated the space in the 70s- 80s to cause a pendulum swing in gender ratio. But it's beginning to balance out again.
