Real life holograms are no longer a sci-fi movie plot (think S1m0ne); now they are REAL! Mariah Carey performed live for several cities in Europe a couple of weeks ago – or so people thought. In actuality Mariah Carey’s hologram performed live for several cities in Europe a couple of weeks ago (the video is below). Yes, the future is here and we now have the technology to create realistic human-like holograms!
Musion is the company behind the Mariah illusion, and their holographic projection system is called the Eyeliner – hence the name Musion Eyeliner. In order to create the lifelike images a projector on the ceiling beams light onto an angled reflective surface on the floor. This surface then reflects the image onto an almost invisible transparent foil creating the hologram!
The coolest part is that anyone can be filmed anywhere using a single camera and then be turned into a hologram somewhere else! The Musion Eyeliner is already revolutionizing the entertainment industry and I predict it won’t be long before businesses adopt this as the new standard in video conferencing. Personally, I can’t wait till my iPhone comes standard with a hologram projector.
